The "Transitional Style" label has become a default identity given to home
designs without a dominant architectural theme. We accept it as a legitimate
American house style since it accounts for the majority of "custom home" plans
in the marketplace today. The style is recognized by "open floor plans", high
ceilings, usually a central Great Room, luxurious Master Suite, large closets
and concern with maximizing overall square footage as a design criteria. The
exterior tends to favor a complex roof profile (including combinations of gables
and hips). Our examples of this architectural style
strive to restore elegance to the overall design by giving attention to tasteful
proportions, form, and details. Plan variations of many of the houses shown on this page are available from in-house resources at G.M. Frech and Associates.
